Hatred, Ignorance, and Looking to the Weekend

Podcast Episode 62: Hatred, Ignorance, and Looking to the Weekend

Welcome back, this is Daily Buddhism audio show number Sixty-Two recorded April 28th, 2013. My name is Brian Schell, and I am the your host for the show. You can find the text as well as all links mentioned in this program and all past episodes on the website at www.dailybuddhism.com.

Announcements:

If you aren’t signed up for the email newsletter, just go to www.dailybuddhism.com and fix that oversight right now. It’s free and easier than ever to sign up. Note that after the long absence, I threw out the old email list. Rather than deal with people who had forgotten about me, I decided to start over, so if you used to get the email, sign up again; it’s all fresh and new.

If you enjoy the podcasts, and the website, and the emails, and the Tweets, and the Facebook posts, then don’t forget to buy the book! My book, The Five-Minute Buddhist was recently released on Amazon, Nook, iTunes, and as a paperback. It’s essentially the “Best of Daily Buddhism.” You can get it in pretty much any format you want. Just go to http://dailybuddhism.com/book/ and follow the links. If you’ve already picked up a copy, please leave a review on whichever site you got the book from.
Please note: I’m getting the podcasts caught up from WAY back. The following posts never made it into the last podcast in 2009. These are topics from that time period. Over the coming weeks, I plan to record podcasts for these “retro-topics” until we get all caught up. All these topics are still on the website, and there is no reason whatsoever why you cannot leave your comments on them at any time. I’d love to hear what you’ve got to say!

Buddhism Once Again

Podcast Episode 60: Buddhism Once Again

Welcome back, this is Daily Buddhism audio show number Sixty. My name is Brian Schell, and I am the your host for the show. You can find the text as well as all links mentioned in this program and all past episodes on the website at www.dailybuddhism.com.

Announcements:

Do we have anything to talk about in this episode? How about my nearly three-month absence from the world of podcasting? I’m sure I mentioned back in April or May that I had gotten a new job teaching, and it seriously takes up most of my time now. That being said, it’s been six months since I started doing that, and I can’t let it take over every minute of my time, no matter how much I enjoy it. I need to get back into doing some of the things I used to do for fun, so here I am. I’m not going to promise to do this every single week, but I am going to put out an episode every chance I get.

As always, the Daily Buddhism Email Newsletter goes out with one topic at a time, and I save them up to do the podcast. Since it’s been ages since I did the last podcast, I have a lot of newsletter material set back to podcast. The questions and articles that you are about to hear are from early July’s newsletters, and the next few podcasts we’ll be playing catch-up. That’s OK, most of this stuff isn’t going to go obsolete in our lifetime.

If you aren’t signed up for the email newsletter, just go to www.dailybuddhism.com and fix that oversight right now. It’s free and easier than ever to sign up.

And now let’s get on with this week’s show!

Hatred, Closets, and Loneliness

Podcast Episode 58: Hatred, Closets, and Loneliness

Announcements:

My work schedule has gotten very full and is still picking up, so between that and the nice weather, my writing time is getting more and more scarce. So for the next six weeks or so, the daily email newsletters will be changing to every-other-day delivery. Don’t panic; the show is not going away, although with fewer newsletter emails each week, I’m going to switch to doing the podcast every other week until my schedule reverts back to normal. I expect my schedule to change completely again toward the end of June, so things should go back to normal then. So for the next six weeks, expect the show and email schedule to get a little irregular. Stick with me, things will straighten out once I get adjusted to my new schedule. Most importantly, keep those letters and questions coming in; also guest posts will be even more welcome than ever, so if you’re interested in writing something, drop me an email.

Nothing major to announce this week, but a couple of things I’d like to remind you about. First, everything I read here on the show appeared first in the free daily email newsletter. Choices and Rewards

Podcast Episode 54: Choices and Rewards

Announcements:

As I mentioned last time, issue #27 of the Weekly Buddhism PDF Magazine was the final weekly issue. Starting in May, the new version will be known as the Monthly Buddhism PDF Magazine.

The MAY issue of the all-new Monthly Buddhism PDF Magazine will be available around the first of May and will include all postings and comments from the Daily Buddhism website during the month of April as well as a few special items. It’ll be an easy and attractive way to have everything in one convenient package. In the meantime, I’ve set up an option to purchase the entire set of the Weekly Buddhism past issues. That’s all 27 issues in one easy purchase. Check out http://www.weeklybuddhism.com

Sponsor: eHealthinsurance. Have you recently lost your health insurance or are looking for ways to save on your insurance? We all know how important health insurance can be, but how do you know where to start looking? Check out eHealthInsurace for free comparison quotes. Just enter your zip code and a few lifestyle questions, and they’ll show you actual rates from your region. It’s pretty neat. Check them out at http://dailybuddhism.com/ehealth

We covered some great topics in this week’s free Daily Buddhism Email Newsletter, and we’ll cover them shortly in this week’s episode. Of all the stuff we do on the Daily Buddhism, I like answering your questions the most, so send in yours by email to brian@dailybuddhism.com or voicemail at 937-660-4949. Seriously; you’ve got questions, so don’t wait to share them!

And now let’s get on with this week’s show!

Resentment, Living Wills, and the Dreaded Door Knock.

Podcast Episode 53: Resentment, Living Wills, and the Dreaded Door Knock.

Announcements:

Tomorrow’s issue #27 of the Weekly Buddhism PDF Magazine will be the final weekly issue. After months of tinkering and thinking, I’ve decided that there just isn’t enough content in one week’s postings to justify a weekly release. Instead, I will do the same thing on a MONTHLY basis. There will be vastly more content per issue, and you’ll only have one-fourth the number of issues to try to keep current. Also, I won’t have to hurry so much to keep up with it, so quality will be higher. Very little of the Daily Buddhism’s content is time-sensitive, so not much will be lost by switching to a larger monthly format.

The MAY issue of the all-new Monthly Buddhism PDF Magazine will be available around the first of May and will include all postings and comments from the Daily Buddhism website during the month of April as well as a few special items. It’ll be an easy way to have everything in one convenient package. The cover price will now be $5.00 per month, which is essentially the same as a month’s worth of weekly issues are now; subscriptions will carry over without change unless you decide to cancel. Essentially, you’ll be getting four times as much information, one-fourth as often, at the same cost. Please feel free to email me your comments on this change.

Sponsor: Mighty Leaf Tea brings you the widest variety of high-quality teas, teaware, and tea-related gifts right to your door. You can perform your regular Buddhist tea rituals with Mighty Leaf Teas or just drink it because it’s great! Summer is coming and they have a great selection of iced teas as well as the hot stuff. For special deals and free sample teas with every order, check out http://www.dailybuddhism.com/tea

No question is too small or oddball! I answer ALL questions. However, once in a while I get one that I either don’t know the answer to, or don’t really feel qualified to answer. I’ve got two of those here, one of which I’ve been procrastinating on for weeks, so I’m going to open them up to anyone listening. If you have an answer or suggestion, send me an email or comment on the show notes for this episode of the podcast. Here goes:
